Big Boulders in White Lake, Michigan

Completed in August, this boulder wall was constructed to retain the ingredients for a new patio, adjacent to the clients doorwall, on their lower level. The interesting thing about this wall is that we backfilled it with 100% 21aa limestone aggregate. We did this because we built a large new flagstone patio on top and I did not want the new patio to ever sink due to settling. We compacted the gravel in 6″ lifts. We used 24 – 30 ” boulders on the two lowest courses for strength and then went to 18-24″ boulders the remainder of the wall. As is normal on all our walls, heavy duty boulder fabric is between the boulders and the backfill stone.
